Stones Throw was founded in 2005 with the objective of working with private and community sector companies to achieve sustainable growth, smart and innovative business development strategies and close engagement with, and enhanced services and outcomes for stakeholders, customers and clients.

As a values-based company, Stones Throw has a particular focus on assisting organisations that help socially and economically disadvantaged people, to grow and deliver more efficient and effective services. With this approach, Stones Throw has had a positive impact on, and helped achieve employment, skills and other socioeconomic outcomes for many thousands of people across Queensland and Australia.

Stones Throw has recently established a recruitment model, designed to reduce the time and costs associated with recruiting entry and mid-level staff for small and medium businesses. Stones Throw also designs and delivers workforce solutions at a regional and industry level and for individual businesses. Our innovative employment solutions, initiatives and projects are tailored to meet the workforce needs of industry and businesses and provide pathways into careers and employment for people looking for a job, a new job, a better job or a different job.

Stones Throw has achieved significant success over the years through:

  • Bid management and tender writing services. Stones Throw has won over $45 million for our clients with a 87% success rate during the past 7 years.
  • Delivery of Local Employment Coordinator consultancy services across the Sunshine Coast and Moreton Bay regions of Queensland. Over 35 employment, skills and business assistance projects were developed and delivered in partnership with local, state and commonwealth governments, employment and skills providers, community organisations, industry groups and private sector companies. These projects resulted in more than 500 unemployed people gaining employment, over 1,000 people trained and skilled and 236 businesses assisted in 3 years.
  • The Sunshine Coast University Public Hospital (SCPUH) “Workshop” initiative. In partnership with the Sunshine Coast Council, Lend Lease, The Australian Government and the Hornery Institute, over 700 local trades people and other workers were employed during the construction phase of the SCPUH from 2013 to 2015.
  • JobShowcase projects. In partnership with Maroochydore Chamber of Commerce and Tourism Noosa and the Queensland government, delivery of innovative employment, skills and workforce development projects providing job opportunities for nearly 100 unemployed people with local tourism, retail and hospitality businesses.
  • The Sweetest Job initiative. In partnership with Regional Development Australia Moreton Bay, Growcom, Queensland Strawberry Growers Association, Food and Agribusiness Network, Sunshine Coast and Moreton Bay Regional Councils and local food and agribusiness companies, a recruitment based campaign resulting in over 150 local people accessing jobs in the sector. The Sweetest Job is now in its second phase with additional investment by the Queensland Government under the Skilling Queenslanders for Work initiative.
  • The 2015 and 2016 Sunshine Coast JobShows. In partnership with Sunshine Coast Council, TAFE Queensland East Coast, business and industry groups and a number of local businesses and services providers, we delivered unique Jobs Expo events that resulted in over 400 people getting a job and over 1,000 people accessing skills training.

Meet the team

Kris McCue

Managing Director

Kris McCue, FAIM, is Managing Director of Stones Throw. For over 15 years Kris has worked across the private, public and community sectors in the areas of management, business and workforce development, labour market intervention, economic development, strategy and policy and stakeholder engagement and has qualifications in commerce and management.

Kris has held executive and board positions with private sector and not for profit organisations successfully developing and leading change management and business development and growth strategies. He held senior roles in the public sector in employment and Vocational Education and Training (VET) strategy, policy, regulation and investment in urban, regional and remote area contexts. Kris has successfully delivered consultancy projects for businesses, community organisations and all levels of government with a focus on community development, labour market intervention, economic development, human resources and workforce development projects and initiatives.

Angela Bueti

Manager, Projects

Over the past two decades Angela has developed extensive experience in senior project management, business strategy, communications strategy and contract management in the training, education and community service sectors.

She has successfully managed her own award winning business as well as large scale education projects across Australia including South Australia, Queensland and in remote locations across the Northern Territory.

Angela holds masters qualifications in education and diploma qualifications in project management. She is highly adaptable, self-determined and an inclusive leader, committing fully to projects to ensure positive outcomes for all stakeholders.

With an education degree majoring in organisational communication, she also has over 20 years’ experience as an educator and writer.

Over the past four years she have contributed hundreds of articles to various magazines and has profiled some of the Sunshine Coast’s most prominent people such as solo world sailor, Jessica Watson and 4 Ingredients cooking queen, Kim McCosker.
